Day 28- 45,260 Words

Things are really rolling along.  I don't want to give away too much, but I thought that you would enjoy these excerpts:

“What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does,” she said to herself as Carson walked away.  She had previously only thought of this sentiment as a forgettable line spoken by Hagrid in the much maligned film adaptation of the Two and a Half Men episode called “The Devil’s Lube.”  But if it was so forgettable, why did she recognize it so quickly when it had been said to her several days prior?  Why did she speak it to herself under her breath so many times as a source of comfort?  That’s the way it is, she thought: things that used to seem so dull and ordinary might become extraordinary once you take a closer look.
She had said this to herself, perhaps in an effort to put off dealing with the fact that the little world that she had occupied for so short a time was coming to an end.  She didn’t want to deal with it now, she wanted to deal with it later.  But even Ellie couldn’t deny the fact that what was comin’ had come, and she had no choice but to meet it.  She cried bitter tears, unable to choose between two lives when neither felt like the right one.
* * *
Penny Lane and Alejandro touched down at Pierre Trudeau International Airport with only the time to get to the Bell Centre in a taxi.  The drive had been pretty uneventful, except for the red Nissan Juke driver that had tailgated the taxi for several kilometers before pulling out to pass and yelling "get out of the way, eh!" through the open window.  At least that's what they thought he had said, since it was pretty difficult to hear him over the Danny Michel that he was blasting.  Alejandro had to cover the Montreal Impact soccer game the next day, but he had been more than willing to take the extra To(Ron)to(!) ticket in the press box anyway.  Instead of worrying too much about what Ellie would have to say when she switched back and found that Alejandro and her had been in requited love for over a day now, she decided that what’s comin’ will come, an’ she won’t meet it when it does because she will be an entirely different person.  That wasn’t exactly how Hagrid had delivered the line in The Devil’s Lube, but maybe if he had the movie would have been better.

  1. Yes! Hagrid's forgettable line strikes again! It sure is puzzling the way that line keeps cropping up, and in Hagrid's thick West Country accent at that.
    Loved this. I am so sad for your protagonists and especially loved this line: "unable to choose between two lives when neither felt like the right one."

    Of course, I also loved Dad's cameo appearance. Well played! And thanks for posting... I was so sad at the thought that I might not get any more posts before the month is over!

  2. This one is hilarious too. I loved the adaptation of Hagrid's forgettable line that none of use will ever forget again. I'm so excited to read your book and find out what happens when they switch places (or don't).

    Your book has been so funny this year. Less than 5, 000 words, you can do it!

  3. You were right. I did enjoy the excerpt, very much. As Danny Michel would no doubt say/sing: It's Peeerfect.
